Huel Carbon Footprint FY25

What this document covers

This is our full carbon footprint breakdown for Financial Year 2025, measured in tonnes of CO2 equivalent (tCO2e). It covers all three emission scopes across our business and value chain, independently assured under ISO 14064-3:2019.

Understanding the three scopes

Carbon footprints are measured across three scopes under the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol, the internationally recognised standard for corporate emissions accounting.

  • Scope 1 covers direct emissions from sources we own or control. For Huel, this is a small amount of gas we
use at one of our offices.
  • Scope 2 covers indirect emissions from purchased energy, primarily electricity.
  • Scope 3 covers all other indirect emissions across our value chain: from the ingredients and packaging we
source, to manufacturing, logistics, and business travel. For most food companies, Scope 3 accounts for the
vast majority of total emissions. Huel is no different.

Market vs location based

We report on both a market-based and location-based basis. The difference relates to Scope 2 electricity. Our market-based figure is lower, reflecting our use of renewable electricity tariffs across most of our sites. The location-based figure uses average grid emission factors for all operating locations.

FY25 results

Our total carbon footprint for FY25 was 77,182 tCO2e on a market-based basis, or 77,261 tCO2e on a location-based basis. Scopes 1 and 2 combined account for under 0.2% of our total. Scope 3 accounts for more than 99%.

What's driving our footprint

Three categories account for the majority of our total emissions.

  • Ingredients are the single largest driver. Food production carries a significant carbon cost at the volumes we
operate at, and we use this data to inform ingredient selection and product development decisions.
  • Production and transport are the next largest contributors, covering manufacturing at our third-party facilities
and movement of materials through our supply chain.
  • Packaging and other purchases make up most of the remainder.

Our footprint over time

Since FY22, our emissions have grown more slowly than our revenue, reducing our carbon intensity from 0.33 to 0.30kg CO2e per £ revenue. Driving intensity down further is the focus of our ongoing operational improvement work.

How we use this data

We measure our carbon footprint annually, at both company and product level. The data informs our reduction targets, helps us prioritise where in the value chain to focus effort, and feeds directly into product and ingredient decisions at the development stage. This report is published as part of our commitment to environmental transparency.

Methodology

Emissions are measured using the Altruistiq carbon accounting platform, following the GHG Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard and its supplementary guidance for Scope 3 value chain reporting.

Our data is independently assured by Bureau Veritas under ISO 14064-3:2019 - Greenhouse Gases Part 3: Specification with guidance for the verification and validation of greenhouse gas statements. You can view our assurance statement here.
